Sunday afternoon, April 5 was the Hamilton and District Budgerigar Society Nest Feather show in Ancaster, Ontario. This show has been going on every year in the same hall since before I got into budgerigars in the early 1970's and most times it ends up being a warm sunny day. This year was no exception. The total entry for this show was a health 65 birds, which made for some good competition and did not take too long to judge. .jpg)
.jpg) Bill Donaldson is seen here judging the novice birds .jpg) Bill again giving deep thought to his task. .jpg) Bernard O'Reilly took over the judging for the Rarer Colours and the Champion birds. .jpg) Bernard once again giving carefull consideration to detail. .jpg) Ken Engelbrecht on the left and his son Marc, on the right, ran the show along with Bernadette Hansen. .jpg) Bernadette hansen on the right keeping the books as the judging takes place. Helen Westley and John Hollister can usually be found in the front row taking in all of the action. .jpg) Jim Gilchrist on the left along with Barry Skinner standing at the back getting the panoramic view of the proceedings. .jpg) The ever present crowd enjoying a sunny afternoon with friends and birds. .jpg) Best Champion was this grey cock of Barry Skinner. Barry tells me that this chick is off the cobalt cock which did quite a bit of winning for Barry the last two years. This grey cock has more brothers and sister just as good. It should vie well for the fall shows. .jpg) The same bird as above. .jpg) 2nd Best Champion was this cinnamon grey green hen of Linda Haswell showing good width. .jpg) 3rd Best Champion was an opaline light green hen of Linda Haswell again. The picture does not do the bird justice. .jpg) Best novice was this nice cinnamon sky blue cock of the Sequerias. This bird showed length as will as style. .jpg) Mervyn & Myola Sequeira staged the 2nd Best Novice with this light green hen. She may have been a bit past the nest feather stage but she definetly has all the goods. .jpg) Bernard O'Reilly took 3rd Best Novice with the promising light green hen. She will have a sweet face when she matures. .jpg) Best recessive pied went to Jim Gilchrist. Jim Staged a nice recessive pied last year and this is his son carrying on the family line. .jpg) Best clear flight. .jpg) On a one day show is is hard to place the awards and get some good pictures before everyone heads off home.
